The Arc was founded in 1950 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as a collaboration of parent groups advocating for the rights of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). It has since grown to over 700 local chapters all over the country.
They provide information and referral services for persons with I/DD needing legal aid, health and life counseling, special education training, employment consultation, and various online resources, among others.
For companies, including airlines, Arc also provides staffing services and training on improving accessibility and inclusiveness in their day-to-day operations.
The Arc advocates for legislation that benefits persons with I/DD, and has been instrumental in the establishment of federal disability rights laws, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act.
