GreenDrop is a charitable organization that generates and collects donated items for transmittal to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Philadelphia, the National Federation of the Blind, the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the American Red Cross.
A large number of their clothing donations bins are located in New York, but they also have many other drop boxes scattered around in other states.
As of early 2020, the organization has around 30 mobile trailers and donation centers in the Mid-Atlantic region that accept an average of a hundred tons of items weekly.
The organization sorts donated items, then sells the highest quality items to 2nd Ave. Value Stores. Heavily damaged or worn items are directly recycled, as in the case of fabrics, which may be used in the manufacture of new goods. Some donations are sold to overseas markets.
GreenDrop offers a “Home Clean-Out” service, where a concierge who is affiliated with the organization goes to donors’ homes, then assists them in selecting items for donation.
